Ski Narvikfjellet, Riksgränsen and Björkliden from Narvik
Choose a ski base, compare the three resorts and plan the journeys between Norway and Sweden.
- Three resorts across two countries
- Check each resort’s season
- Confirm permission to drive in Sweden

A practical comparison of three Arctic ski resorts, transport options and equipment planning.
Choose your ski base
| Resort | What to consider | Getting around |
|---|---|---|
| Narvikfjellet | Fjord views and a base in town. Check the current lift and construction information before booking. | Local travel from your accommodation; a car is optional for a stay centred on town. |
| Riksgränsen | A destination associated with freeriding and spring skiing. Opening dates and terrain depend on the season. | E10 or seasonal transport. Confirm rental permission for Sweden and current road conditions. |
| Björkliden | A mountain resort overlooking Torneträsk, suited to a stay focused on the resort and surrounding landscape. | E10, rail or seasonal transfers. Check Arctic Skibus dates and reservation requirements. |
Choose a base before choosing a car
A stay focused on Narvik town has different transport needs from a week moving between resorts. Consider where you sleep, how often you want to change ski area and how much equipment you carry. The table below is a starting point; slope difficulty and open terrain must be checked with each operator.
One pass, but check the details
Arctic Ski Pass links the three resorts. Seasonal Arctic Skibus services can make a car unnecessary for some itineraries. Check the dates, eligible pass, stops and booking requirements for your actual trip. Do not reuse last season’s bus timetable.

Narvikfjellet is changing
The resort is being developed ahead of the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships. The operator announces the new gondola for January 2027. Opening dates, lifts and access can change, so verify the facilities available for your visit before paying for travel.
Driving across the border
The E10 connects Narvik with Riksgränsen and Björkliden. Mountain weather can affect the route. Check both Norwegian and Swedish traffic information, and confirm the rental’s permission, fees and assistance arrangements for Sweden. A clear forecast at your hotel does not establish conditions on the mountain road.
Match the car to the equipment
Count passengers, suitcases and ski bags together. Ask about the actual luggage space and any requested ski carrier before booking; a vehicle category is not a promise of a roof box. For off-piste or ski touring, arrange qualified guidance and consult the relevant local avalanche forecast.
Places on this trip
Markers show places, not a driving route or a verified parking space. Follow signs and check access locally.
Check available cars
Tell us your passenger count and ski-bag needs when arranging your rental. Confirm equipment availability and travel to Sweden before setting off.
