Narvik to Abisko
Follow the E10 into Sweden for mountain birch, canyon paths and a slower overnight stay.
- E10 via Bjørnfjell and Riksgränsen
- Written rental permission for Sweden
- Check road reports in both countries

Abisko makes a focused outing from Narvik when the mountain road is suitable. Choose a daylight visit to the national park or stay overnight to avoid combining an evening activity with a late return drive.
A plan with room to breathe
One park visit, then back to Narvik
Leave after the road check
Carry the written rental permission and required travel documents. Set a return decision time before departing.
Explore the visitor area
Take one suitable marked walk and a food break. Return by the E10 with weather and daylight in reserve.
A day visit depends on an open road and suitable conditions in both directions. Do not add Kiruna to this plan.
Separate the journey from the evening
Arrive and settle in
Drive to your confirmed accommodation, then explore nearby in the remaining daylight.
Keep the evening local
Join an activity only if booked and operating. Prefer walking or arranged transfers to extra night driving.
Reassess before returning
Have breakfast, check both countries' road reports and return to Narvik with time before rental handover.
Book accommodation and any evening activity separately. The itinerary does not confirm availability or road access.
Follow one clear route
From Narvik, follow the E6 north to the signed E10 towards Bjørnfjell and Sweden. Continue past Riksgränsen and Björkliden to Abisko. The national park visitor area at Abisko Turiststation is distinct from Abisko village. Use the correct destination in your navigation and include every detour in your mileage plan.
Arrange permission before the border
Narvik Rent A Car's published terms require written consent before taking the car out of Norway. Confirm permission for Sweden, approved drivers, any charges and assistance arrangements against your rental agreement. Check the travel documents required for every passenger with the Swedish Police. A nearby border does not remove these preparations.

Start near naturum
The naturum visitor centre and STF mountain station are useful starting points for exploring the park. When conditions permit, choose a short marked walk towards the canyon rather than committing immediately to a long hike. Check which paths are suitable that day, including steps, gradients and surfaces if travelling with a pram or wheelchair.
Treat winter as a different journey
Check Vegvesen and Trafikverket before leaving and again before returning. Mountain weather can change while you are in the park. Carry warm layers, food and a charged phone, and preserve daylight for the drive. Snow covered trails and frozen water require local assessment; a summer walking description is not a winter route.

Stay if the evening is the attraction
An overnight stay gives space for a booked evening experience without pressure to drive back tired. Check STF's current dates and booking requirements for Aurora Sky Station and other activities. Northern lights and clear skies are never guaranteed. In quieter periods, confirm food, reception and visitor centre hours separately.
