Narvik to Senja
Two or three days for coastal viewpoints, a quiet overnight stop and a sensible return.
- Mainland access via Finnsnes
- Two days minimum for this plan
- Scenic route roads 86 and 862

Senja rewards time outside the car. From Narvik, use the mainland bridge approach and stay at least one night. Pick a small stretch of the scenic coast instead of trying to collect every viewpoint and summit.
A plan with room to breathe
One night and a focused coastal visit
Day one · reach your base
Drive via Finnsnes. If your booked base and arrival time suit, make Bergsbotn your single sightseeing stop.
Day two · one coastal highlight
Choose Tungeneset or Ersfjordstranda if conditions suit, then turn towards Finnsnes and Narvik with a generous return margin.
Keep accommodation near the chosen coast. In winter or poor weather, shorten this plan rather than adding night driving.
Two nights with a full coastal day
Day one · travel without rushing
Reach Senja by bridge, buy supplies and settle into your confirmed accommodation.
Day two · explore the nearby coast
Choose Bergsbotn, Tungeneset and Ersfjordstranda in an order that fits your base. Leave a village detour optional.
Day three · return to Narvik
Have an unhurried breakfast and drive back via Finnsnes. Leave fuel and rental handover time outside the sightseeing plan.
The overnight base determines the best order. This is a road itinerary with short stops, not a hiking schedule.
Reach Senja by road
Head north from Narvik on the E6. At Buktamoen, follow the signed route towards Finnsnes and continue across the bridge to Senja. This approach avoids building the trip around a ferry departure. Use current navigation and traffic reports for the whole journey, then check the final approach to your accommodation.
Choose a small piece of the coast
The official scenic route links Botnhamn and Gryllefjord on roads 862 and 86. For a short stay, centre your sightseeing on Bergsbotn, Tungeneset and Ersfjordstranda. These places offer different views without requiring a summit hike. Add Mefjordvær only if time, daylight and road conditions leave a comfortable margin.

Two days means a selective visit
On day one, reach your booked base and choose one nearby stop. On day two, make a short coastal outing before returning towards Finnsnes and Narvik. The long approach and return remain part of both days. If you want several walks or the full coast, choose the three day version instead.
Use a third day to slow down
With two nights on Senja, keep the middle day for the coast and use the same accommodation when practical. Walk a suitable section near a viewpoint, take a proper lunch break and leave one stop optional. Save the last day for the return journey rather than a major hike followed by a deadline.
Plan for exposed weather and mileage
Check wind, precipitation and road conditions before committing to the outer coast. Wet rock, ice and strong wind can make a short viewpoint stop unsuitable. Use signed parking and respect closures. Confirm accommodation and food options for your dates, then review the rental mileage allowance for the approach, coastal driving and return. If adding ferries, check the actual seasonal timetable.

Check available cars
Compare cars for your group and luggage, and confirm the mileage allowance for a Senja return trip. Arrange accommodation separately before committing to the itinerary.
