Narvik with children
Small adventures, warm breaks and room to change your mind.
- One main activity each day
- Indoor alternatives in town
- Request child seats before collection

A good family day in Narvik needs one main experience and an easy way home. Choose a town day, wildlife outing or short fjord drive according to your children's energy and the weather.
A plan with room to breathe
A gentle day close to your base
Morning in town
Visit Narvik Museum when open, with time to follow the children's questions.
Lunch and a short walk
Eat indoors, then take a brief town walk if surfaces and weather suit. Finish before tiredness sets in.
The simplest choice for arrival day or mixed weather. Check museum hours first.
Let Polar Park set the pace
Prepare before leaving
Check opening and guiding times. Pack a picnic, warm layers and spare clothes.
Explore without rushing
Follow the park's paths and give animals time. Leave the rest of the afternoon free for the journey back.
Wildlife sightings vary. Choose this only when the drive and outdoor conditions suit your family.
A flexible drive towards Skjomen
Set a small destination
Check the road and weather, then drive south with one planned, lawful stop.
Picnic and return
Enjoy a short break near the fjord and return to Narvik for a warm meal or rest.
This is a modest out and back trip. Skip the outdoor stop when wind or ice makes it unpleasant.
Start with the children's pace
Leave the first morning light after arriving in Narvik. Buy picnic food, find your accommodation and choose one activity together. A short outing with time to explore usually works better than several timed tickets. Keep dry gloves and a spare layer accessible without unpacking the whole car.
Choose an indoor anchor
Narvik Museum introduces the railway, harbour and town through local history. Narvik War Museum is another central option, but its subject needs thought for younger or sensitive children. Choose one museum and check its opening hours. A warm lunch afterwards gives everyone a natural stopping point.

Give Polar Park its own day
Polar Park lies north of Narvik in Bardu. Treat it as the day's main outing and check the programme before leaving. Animals have spacious enclosures and can be out of sight, so make the walk part of the experience. Bring weatherproof clothes and food rather than rushing between animal sightings.
Keep the mountain option current
Narvikfjellet's gondola and Mountain Restaurant are closed during redevelopment, with reopening planned for January 2027. Do not build an autumn 2026 family day around a gondola ride. For later visits, check the operator's actual opening information and weather before promising children a mountain trip.

Make the car work for the family
Tell the rental team each child's size and which restraint you need, then confirm availability and fit before collection. Include a pram, bags and winter clothing when choosing luggage space. For a Skjomen outing, select a legal stopping place from current local information and turn back while everyone is comfortable.
Places on this trip
Markers show places, not a driving route or a verified parking space. Follow signs and check access locally.
Check available cars
Choose space for your family and luggage, then ask us about suitable child seats. Confirm the equipment and collection details before your trip.
