Narvik Technical School opens
Technical education grows alongside the region’s industrial development.
- 1974
An engineering college
The institution takes the engineering college name as higher education changes.

- 2016
HiN joins UiT
On 1 January, Narvik University College becomes part of UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
A campus shaped by its surroundings
Narvik’s industrial setting helped create demand for technical education in the north. Narvik Technical School opened in 1955, preparing students for engineering work in a changing region. Its successors developed into the institution many former students know as Høgskolen i Narvik, or HiN.
From HiN to UiT
On 1 January 2016, Narvik University College joined UiT The Arctic University of Norway together with Harstad University College. Today, use UiT’s Narvik campus pages for current programmes, contacts and visitor information. HiN is an important historical name, rather than a separate university to apply to today.

Narvik Studentersamfunn
Narvik Studentersamfunn (NSS) brings students together through clubs, events and volunteering. Samskipnaden traces the society’s work back to 1955. Its own website is the place to check current membership, activities and contact details; event calendars and club meeting times can change during the academic year.
Learn programming with Algoritmi
Algoritmi is the programming club within the Narvik student community. It welcomes people who want to learn, improve their programming and meet others with similar interests. Use the club’s official page for its current activities and ways to get involved rather than relying on an old timetable.

The people behind this website
Almaz Ermilov and Aleksei Poroshin, who both studied in Narvik, contributed to this project and website. We also thank the Algoritmi programming club for its contribution. These local connections are part of the story of the site. Algoritmi is part of Narvik Studentersamfunn.
Visiting the campus
For an appointment or event, confirm the building, room and access arrangements with your host. Compare local transport with driving for the actual visit; a car is more useful when you combine campus with travel outside town. The Evenes arrival guide can help visiting families and former students plan a longer stay.
Places on this trip
Markers show places, not a driving route or a verified parking space. Follow signs and check access locally.
